Close inspection of my eleven-year-old prized plant revealed the culprit. A thriving honeysuckle vine. This unwanted vine had rooted itself adjacent to my crepe myrtle and had tenaciously intertwined with my beloved plant.
How could I have missed it? How could I have been so fooled? For over an hour I snipped, untangled and pulled the botanic invader away from my crepe myrtle. Then I cut the intruder's trunk base to ground level, annihilating it forever.
Isn't this just like sin? It can sneak in, appear ok, but in the end no blossoms, no fruit, just imminent destruction. If I hadn't looked at it closely and consequently intervened, the unforeseen honeysuckle vine could've overtaken and destroyed my crepe myrtle--the hallmark of my flowerbed.
Help me to daily use the mirror of your word to identify thoughts, attitudes and actions that don't align with your will. Search my heart. Rid me of anything that would cause me to miss the mark--eternal life. I long to be a real person and a true reflection of You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. I Peter 5:8 The Message
